Chick Corea & Béla Fleck
Two virtuoso musician-composers – legendary pianist and NEA Jazz Master Chick Corea, and bebop-bluegrass banjoist Béla Fleck – share the concert stage for an evening of transfixing music.
Throughout his career, 22-time GRAMMY winner Chick Corea has been at the forefront of jazz and fusion, an innovator who has forged new ground with his acoustic jazz bands, his electric units, and as both a solo artist and collaborator. The New York Times recently classified him as “a luminary, ebullient and eternally youthful.”
Béla Fleck is regarded not only as the world’s premier banjo player, but also as one of the most inventive musicians on any instrument, known for a singular blend of bebop and bluegrass. Fleck has reinvented the image of the banjo through a remarkable career that has taken him all over the musical map, and earned him 14 GRAMMY Awards of his own.
For years now, these two consummate artists have enjoyed an invigorating partnership that’s resulted in two acclaimed albums – 2007’s The Enchantment and 2015’s Two – and when they share the concert stage, they always bring a genre-shattering, jaw-dropping display of technical mastery, delivered with deep emotion and a delightful spirit of play.
“(This is) a musical meeting of the minds – two musicians in uncanny sync,” says All About Jazz. “Corea and Fleck revel in their high-wire interplay,” says The New York Times. “(They) balance their imposing improvisational prowess against a sense of familiar composure … their rapport evokes an elite ballroom-dance routine with intricate, gliding footwork and a generously shifting lead.”
