Dorthaan’s Place: The Jon Faddis Quartet
NJPAC’s intimate jazz brunch series hosts trumpeter and composer Jon Faddis, classified as "the world's greatest trumpeter" by Time Out New York.
Trumpet virtuoso, composer and Dizzy Gillespie protégé Jon Faddis is one the most prolific artists in modern jazz. The Wall Street Journal calls him “a trumpet player of prodigious lyrical force.” Don’t miss this chance to see Faddis and his quartet make musical magic in the intimate setting of NJPAC’s NICO Kitchen + Bar.
During his illustrious career in jazz, Faddis has worked with a "who’s who" of jazz greats, such as Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus, Oscar Peterson and Thad Jones. He’s lent his expert playing to the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, the Grammy-winning United Nation Orchestra, the Gil Evans Big Band and the Mingus Big Band, among others. He’s been the music director and conductor for some of jazz’s legendary ensembles, including the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars. Today that wealth of experience comes into play whenever he performs: Few figures in contemporary jazz can match his extraordinary range.
This jazz brunch is curated and hosted by WBGO programmer Dorthaan Kirk, Newark's "First Lady of Jazz."
