Jazz Jam Sessions

Celebrating its third season, NJPAC’s free jazz series moves to Clement’s Place, the intimate new club in Newark’s downtown.

Co-presented by NJPAC and the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, Jazz Jam Sessions attracts ace musicians from New Jersey and beyond, as well as talented students seeking to play alongside their musical heroes. The series is curated and directed by pianist and bandleader James Austin Jr. in consultation with NJPAC’s Departments of Community Engagement and Arts Education.

Admission is free, but space is limited. Reservations must be made in advance below.

  • Thursday, Aug. 18: A sizzling salute to the sounds of Havana, featuring César López & Habana Ensemble with fiery Cuban pianist and composer Jorge Luis Pacheco. The second half of the program, led by James Austin Jr., includes all-star percussionists Samuel Torres and Kobie Watkins, saxophonist Jarrard Harris and bassist Ben RubensRSVP here.
