Jazz Songbook with Bill Charlap: My Favorite Things
Premier jazz pianist Bill Charlap presents this evening devoted to the songs of musical theater titan Richard Rodgers.
Jazz pianist Bill Charlap is widely recognized as a master interpreter of the Great American Songbook, known for using American standards to illustrate how a jazz musician can honor tradition and still be sublimely creative.
Whether it is Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific or The King and I, the immortal music of Richard Rodgers resides at the very center of American popular culture. From Art Tatum to Miles Davis, many of the jazz world's greatest musicians have been attracted to Rodgers' glorious melodies. For this concert, part of his 2013-2014 Jazz Songbook series at NJPAC, Charlap leads an evening devoted to the jazzy side of this musical theater legend.
