Carolyn Dorfman Dance and the incomparable storyteller, narrator and librettist Charlotte Blake Alston in DANCE/STORIES, an enchanting interdisciplinary collaboration featuring a selection of folk tales and authentic stories from around the world. The dance features a commissioned score by jazz composer Horacee Arnold and visual design by Kate Freer. Interweaving thought-provoking choreography with the power of the spoken word, Dorfman magically turns to the Earth’s oldest art form – storytelling – into a moving tapestry that “bathes the senses and the soul.”
The return of Dorfman’s acclaimed SEXTET. With a powerful and driving score by jazz composer Horacee Arnold, this dance explores the energy, rhythm and power of six dancers as they connect, divide and regroup. “Kinetic angels, innocent of gravity’s mortal tug … They fly deft and agile, through fast shifting shapes riding the current of movement” (Dance magazine).
The world premiere of a new work by principal dancer Ae-Soon Kim, now in her eighth season with the company. In her work for five dancers, Kim and composer Greg Wall combine live Korean drumming with an electronic score to explore her roots and her life’s journey on three continents: Asia, Europe and America.
