John Prine with special guests Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams
NJPAC debut! This two-time Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, a legend of country and folk, performs “In Spite of Ourselves,” “Paradise” and more hits!
John Prine’s songs have been recorded by superstars like Johnny Cash, Carly Simon, Bette Midler, Norah Jones, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, and many others, but his genius isn’t found in his resume; it’s found in the lyrical brilliance that infuses his large catalog of songs, including “Sam Stone,” “Angel from Montgomery,” “Souvenirs,” “Hello in There,” and “Donald and Lydia,” to name just a few.
Over four decades into a remarkable career that has drawn effusive praise from the likes of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Springsteen, Prine is regarded as an American poet of the highest order, a living legend of country and folk who was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and received the prestigious PEN Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Award.
In a recent profile, The New York Times classified Prine as “a trailblazer … an influential singer and songwriter with a gift for articulating moments almost beyond words.” As Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters once said: “John Prine lives on that plane with Neil Young and Lennon.”
Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams have rocked many a venue, as both center stage performers and invaluable assets to world-class acts. A short list of artists who have benefited from their talents includes Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Little Feat, Levon Helm, Sheryl Crow and others. Campbell and Williams offer a potent, infectious blend of Americana style and timeless soul, offered with a relaxed generosity that comes from their rich experiences.
