New Jersey Ballet’s 58th Anniversary Celebration
Two dance masterpieces of passion – the fiery Carmen and the breathtaking Romeo & Juliet – are performed by New Jersey Ballet in a 58th Anniversary Celebration.
Set to the sweeping music of Bizet, with choreography by George Tomal, Carmen follows the story of a sultry gypsy as she seduces a young army corporal, then leaves him for a dashing toreador. The desperate corporal pleads with Carmen to return to him. Her refusal ends in tragedy.
Based on Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers, Romeo & Juliet is choreographed by Johan Renvall to Prokofiev’s lush score. Critics have called this ballet “a striking one-act classic” and “a gem.”
