The Art of Rap: DMX, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep
This electrifying performance (which follows in the footsteps of Ice-T’s acclaimed documentary, The Art of Rap) brings together a who’s-who of some of the hottest artists in all of hip-hop: DMX, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Mobb Deep, all hosted in NJPAC’s Prudential Hall by legendary DJ Chuck Chillout.
Songwriter, producer and actor DMX is a true hip-hop pioneer, a superstar of the 1990s rap scene and still one of the genre’s most popular artists. DMX is best known for his top-selling album, ... And Then There Was X (which included the hit single, "Party Up”), and for his BET reality series, DMX: Soul of a Man.
A trendsetter in the genre of Mafioso rap, Raekwon is a longtime member of the multi-platinum Wu-Tang Clan. Since the 1995 release of his acclaimed solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ..., Raekwon has recorded several other solo projects in addition to his continuing work with Wu-Tang. Also appearing at Art of Rap at NJPAC is another Wu-Tang Clan member, Ghostface Killah, who has earned raves for his fast-paced flow and emotional stream-of-consciousness narratives, displayed on solo projects like Ironman and the 2006 hit, Fishscale.
Rounding out the bill is the NYC-based hip-hop group Mobb Deep. Composed of members Havoc and Prodigy, Mobb Deep has become one of the best known rap duos in all of hip-hop, recognized for albums like The Infamous (1995) and Hell on Earth (1996), which have sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
