Tommy Tune: Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales
Spend an intimate evening of song, dance and stories with the Broadway tap legend who towers above the rest.
NJPAC’s American Song Series welcomes Broadway icon Tommy Tune in his first solo cabaret show at NJPAC! In Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales, this nine-time Tony Award winner takes an autobiographical stroll through his auspicious career in song and dance, set to personal renditions of standards by Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Burt Bacharach, the Gershwins and more.
The tallest tapper on the Great White Way takes a song-and-dance stroll through his 50-year career in musical theater–from his arrival in New York as an fresh-faced kid from Texas, through his most popular roles on stage (Seesaw, My One and Only) and screen (The Boyfriend, Hello, Dolly!), to his ascension as one of the country's most accomplished director-choreographers behind Grand Hotel, The Will Rogers Follies, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the original Nine. Accompanied by Michael Biagi, his pianist and musical director for nearly four decades, Tune takes a musical journey set to hand-picked songs from Weill (“September Song”), Mercer (“I Remember You”), Leiber & Stoller (“I’ve Got Them Feelin’ Too Good Today Blues”), Lerner & Loewe (“I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face”), Bacharach (“Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”), Carole King (“Up on the Roof”), and even Green Day (“Wake Me Up When September Ends”).
The American Song Series at NJPAC is presented, in part, through the generous support of the Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.
