NJPAC offers the following programs for young people interested in music, dance and theater:
Young Artist Institute (ages 11-18) study vocal music, acting,. modern dance, musical theater and jazz. Classes are offered Fall, Mid-Winter and Spring semesters.
Summer Youth Performance Workshop (ages 13-18) study vocal music, acting modern dance or musical theater with leading professionals.
Wachovia Jazz For Teens (ages 13-18) study the history, techniques and styles of jazz through class work and performance with master-level professional jazz musicians.
NJPAC/New Jersey Youth Theatre Summer Musical Program (high school and college students) study musical theater by participating in a full-scale, professional-level production.
The Jeffrey Carollo Music Scholarship (ages 18 and under) receive private lessons at the Newark School of the Arts. Students currently studying voice or instruments in the classical form are eligible to apply.
The Star-Ledger Scholarship for the Performing Arts (Newark high school seniors) provides higher education funding for select students with potential to become leading arts professionals.

Summer Youth Performance Workshop
The Summer Youth Performance Workshop is NJPAC’s five-week, full-day program for artistically talented young people, ages 13–18. The program offers students the opportunity to study acting, modern dance and vocal performance with professionals in each field. Classes are dedicated to giving each student focused, discipline-based instruction in all three disciplines. Students experience and contribute to the process of developing and shaping performance pieces in the final showcase. Guest artists and field trip augment students artistic experience.
NJPAC’s Wachovia Jazz For Teens
Created with NJ’s own jazz radio station, WBGO-Jazz 88.3 FM, NJPAC’s Wachovia Jazz For Teens introduces teenage musicians, ages 13-18, to the excitement of jazz! Selected high school students attend 22 full-day classes and concerts on Saturdays from September through May. They work with professional jazz musicians to explore the history, techniques and styles of jazz through class work and performance. At the conclusion of the fall semester, students participate in a professional recording session. At the end of the spring semester, students perform in a concert that is open to the public.

Young Artist Institute
The Young Artist Institute offers talented young New Jersey performers (ages 11-18) a place to study in an artistically rigorous yet nurturing environment where they receive intensive technique training, personal assistance, encouragement and helpful advice from professional artists. Courses are offered in acting, modern dance, musical theater and vocal music on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Jazz (instrumental) on Wednesday evenings. The Jeffrey Carollo Music Scholarship
The NJPAC/Jeffrey Carollo Music Scholarship is made possible through a fund established in 1977 at the behest of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Carollo in honor of their late son, Jeffrey, a gifted musician. Scholarships are available for students in grades 11 and under, who study classical voice, piano, violin, viola, bass, cello, guitar, trumpet, clarinet or percussion. The comprehensive training includes private lessons, music theory and ensembles during two private lessons per week, after school, in the evenings, and/or on Saturdays at the Newark School of the Arts (NSA). Scholarships pay for one lesson per week, the second is paid for by the student. Additional scholarships may be available from NSA based on financial need. All participants perform in concert on stage at NJPAC.

NJPAC/New Jersey Youth Theatre Summer Musical Program
NJPAC collaborates with the New Jersey Youth Theatre, one of the most celebrated youth theater companies in the state, to offer young artists, ages 15–22, the opportunity to learn about musical theater first-hand by participating in its full-scale, professional level production. Past NJPAC/NJ Youth Theatre productions have included Ragtime, Carousel, 1776, and South Pacific. Interested actors, singers, dancers and orchestra musicians can audition at NJPAC’s Young Artist Talent Search to be considered for call-back auditions. The Star-Ledger Scholarship for the Performing Arts
Designed to provide higher education opportunities for the young people of Newark. This program enables NJPAC to identify, cultivate and train gifted college-bound Newark high school seniors who demonstrate the potential to become leading arts professionals.
These scholarships are among New Jersey's most prestigious scholastic awards. Three merit-based scholarships are awarded for either $40,000 ($10,00 per year for four years); or $20,000 ( $5,000 per year for four years). The scholarships support a 4-year education leading to the completion of a degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. The scholarships also provide the opportunity to gain practical experience through internships at NJPAC.
