Newark, N.J. (March 4, 2016) – For the eighth consecutive year, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) has won the hearts and online clicks of New Jersey arts lovers, who declared NJPAC “Favorite Large Performing Arts Center” in the 2016’s People’s Choice Awards.

Other nominees for “Favorite Large Performing Arts Center” included the Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Morristown, McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, State Theatre in New Brunswick, Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, Bergen Performing Arts Center (Bergen PAC) in Englewood and Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) in Rahway.

“Winning in an election year is especially sweet, and 2016 also marks the 350th anniversary of our home city's founding, so receiving this eighth consecutive People's Choice Award is quite gratifying for Team NJPAC," said John Schreiber, NJPAC's President and CEO. "All the winners and nominees deserve heartiest congratulations for endowing New Jersey's culture and community with beauty and vitality."

“All of the nominees in the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, should be very proud of the work they’re doing to bolster arts and culture in our state,” said Adam Perle, President & CEO of ArtPride New Jersey, the state arts service organization that coordinates the annual awards. “To be nominated by one’s peers is to wear a badge of honor that signifies ‘great art happens here.’ With more than 100 truly outstanding nominees, it’s easy to see how much exceptional art takes place right here in New Jersey.”

The People’s Choice Awards are coordinated through the Discover Jersey Arts program, a cosponsored project of the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts aimed at increasing the awareness of and participation in the arts. The Awards, which take place annually to honor the work of New Jersey’s vital, vibrant and diverse arts community, saw more than 21,000 ballots cast statewide – the greatest number of votes since its inception in 2008. NJPAC was among more than 110 arts organizations and downtown districts nominated for the Awards in 16 categories.
