This two-week course will be an active hands-on lab for educators and students to experience teaching strategies in the Orff Schulwerk approach to music and movement education. Attendees will participate in performance of speech, rhythm, poetry, rhymes singing, movement and small percussion, as well as barred instruments, and soprano recorder in unison, solo, and ensemble, exploring models for creativity.

Educators will 

  • Understand foundations of the Orff Schulwerk elemental approach to music education through active participation and experiential learning in a collaborative environment.
  • Understand the purpose of, and explore meaningful ways to include speech, body percussion, rhyme, poetry, literature, singing, movement, instruments and play in a student-centered approach through music education.
  • Gain confidence in their own creativity as it relates to their personal musicianship, including recorder skills and movement, as well as improvisational strategies to use in their teaching.

Tuition is $500 per person, plus materials. NJPAC tuition fees are waived for Newark Public School and Paterson Public School teachers. A limited quantity are available. Material fees still apply. Register today! See below for required and recommended materials.

Graduate credit is available from William Paterson University for an additional fee. See wpunj.edu/music for more information; a WPU representative will also be present on August 12.
