Academy of St Martin in The Fields with Joshua Bell

Academy of St Martin in The Fields with Joshua Bell

An artist beloved by NJPAC audiences, violin virtuoso Joshua Bell returns with his Academy of St Martin in the Fields, soloing on Paganini’s technically brilliant Violin Concerto No. 1 and leading Brahms’ expressive Fourth Symphony.

This rich evening program, which includes another selection to be announced, welcomes Bell back with the Academy, which he has served as Music Director since 2011.

During a career spanning more than three decades, Bell has received honors including GRAMMY, Mercury and Gramophone awards and the Avery Fisher Prize. For this performance, he will play the fiendishly challenging First Violin Concerto by Paganini, “the devil’s fiddler,” who left audiences gasping with his mastery of the instrument in this piece.

Also holding great appeal for audiences is the contemplative Symphony No. 4, composed by a mature Brahms as his final symphony, and a triumph from its very first performance.

Praised by The Dallas Morning News as “an ensemble of first-rate musicians, technically superb, generously expressive, and obviously enjoying themselves,” London’s Academy of St Martin in the Fields is renowned for fresh, brilliant interpretations of the greatest classical music. Through unrivaled live performances and a vast recording output – the highlights of which include the 1969 best-seller Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning film Amadeus – the Academy quickly gained an enviable international reputation for its distinctive, polished and refined sound.
