Bethany Jazz Vespers: Oliver Lake

The Bethany Jazz Vespers series presents this FREE concert featuring legendary saxophonist and composer Oliver Lake, a longtime trailblazer on the progressive jazz scene.

A co-founder of the internationally acclaimed World Saxophone Quartet (along with David Murray, Julius Hemphill and Hamiet Bluiett), Lake has composed and arranged for everyone from the Brooklyn Philharmonic to Björk. In recent years, he has led a number of his own adventurous ensembles, including the Oliver Lake Organ Quartet and the Oliver Lake Big Band, and has won widespread acclaim for his work in TRiO 3, a collaboration with bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Andrew Cyrille.

As both performer and composer, Lake’s numerous awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Mellon Jazz Living Legacy Award from the Kennedy Center, and the prestigious Doris Duke Artist Award.

This free event is presented by Bethany Jazz Vespers and NJPAC.
