Bokanté, a multicultural group assembled by bassist-composer Michael League and singer-songwriter Malika Tirolien, both of the multi-GRAMMY-winning Snarky Puppy, creates its singular sound by melding the electric blues of Led Zeppelin with Afro-pop, jazz, and folkloric Caribbean styles.
Featuring members of the fusion band Snarky Puppy, Bokanté is a multi-lingual, multi-generational ensemble composed of top players from five countries and four continents. The group’s music combines the Snarky Puppy guitar line and lap steel virtuoso Roosevelt Collier with a trio of expert percussionists, including longtime Paul Simon hand drummer Jamey Haddad, and Snarky Puppy multi-instrumentalist Keita Ogawa. Bokanté’s one-of-a-kind sound is unified by the soaring vocals of Malika Tirolien, sung in Creole and French.
“Bokanté is a big, happy band of skilled musicians whose tunes are both complex and easy to dance to,” says LA Weekly. “They are nothing short of a world music super group!” says Pulse magazine.
NICO Kitchen + Bar will be open for this performance.
