Horizon Foundation Sounds of the City: The Davell Crawford Movement
Horizon Foundation Sounds of the City, NJPAC’s free outdoor music series in Chambers Plaza, continues with an evening of American roots music, courtesy of acclaimed New Orleans pianist Davell Crawford and his band.
Often referred to as “The Prince of New Orleans” (a title bestowed on him by Mayor Marc Morial of New Orleans), pianist Davell Crawford is one of the most durable artists on the contemporary Crescent City music scene and a leading ambassador of the New Orleans piano tradition. Known for his work in American Roots music – which includes gospel, traditional jazz, country, funk and R&B – Crawford’s keyboard prowess has taken him to many of the world’s greatest clubs, performance halls and jazz festivals.
“Plain and simple, Davell Crawford is one of the most talented musicians alive,” says Blues Access. “He is one of those prodigious talents that strikes like a bolt of lightning,” says The DCist. “Crawford lives up to his reputation from the word go … (he creates) an infectious sound that defies category.”
Opening for The Davell Crawford Movement will be New Jersey’s own The VooDUDES, performing zydeco, rock, blues and country music.
