National Ballet of Ukraine: Don Quixote

The 2018 U.S. tour of the acclaimed National Ballet of Ukraine leaps into NJPAC’s Prudential Hall with this sumptuous, traditional staging of the immortal Don Quixote.

Don Quixote is one of the most popular works in all of classical ballet, known for dazzling choreography, stunning sets, and elaborate costumes. Composed by Ludwig Minkus and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, Don Quixote recreates all the charming flair of 17th-century Spain as imagined in the original novel by Miguel de Cervantes.

As part of its 150th anniversary season, National Ballet of Ukraine is touring with this production, which provides a remarkable example of classical Russian ballet technique, here given a light contemporary touch by choreographer Viktor Lytvynov, who elaborates on Petipa’s famed staging for the Bolshoi. Special guest soloist Leonid Sarafanov of Teatro alla Scala will join the company at NJPAC.
