NJPAC Stage Exchange: Mother of the Bride? by Marlena Lustik
Mother of the Bride? by playwright Marlena Lustik is given a dramatic reading, followed by a conversation with the audience, as part of the fifth season of NJPAC Stage Exchange, presented by NJPAC in partnership with the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.
The Stage Exchange supports fledgling works, from script to spotlight. Jersey-based dramatists are placed under the wing of professional theaters that guide the play from writing to a dramatic reading and public discussion, to full production.
Mother of the Bride? is a tale of two families, one from northern New Jersey, the other from Texas, with traditional views on life. Their children have decided to wed in Cape May, N.J. and lead their lives as a transgender couple. Lustik’s play asks: How much love do we have for our children? Can we bless them and let them sail off into unknown waters? Can we laugh at ourselves amidst change?
Cape May Stage in Cape May is the partner theater for this new play.
This season’s Friday night Stage Exchange readings also include “StageX’s” first musical, Silueta, on April 5.
