Savion Glover’s A Coltrane Story 'or Something Along Those Lines
Tap master and NJPAC Dance Advisor Savion Glover presents his talented young students in an original song-and-dance piece that salutes the genius of jazz icon John Coltrane.
For the second consecutive summer, NJPAC Dance Advisor Savion Glover has shared his talents with 40 remarkable kids, representing his home city of Newark as well as the Greater Newark area. The result is an original, vibrant and powerful musical loosely based on the life of jazz icon John Coltrane. Spanning the height of Coltrane’s career from the 1940s through the turbulent changes of the 1960s, this piece uses the music of Coltrane and his contemporaries to explore his musical and spiritual evolution.
This year’s Summer Intensive with Savion Glover provided NJPAC Arts Education students the chance to take giant steps towards finding their authentic voices, while being coached by a legend of the theater world.
