Trilogy: Scott, Garner, Gray, Says Jimmy Baldwin
Trilogy: An Opera Company premieres Scott, Garner, Gray, Says Jimmy Baldwin, an opera about racial injustice in the deaths of three African-American men, told through the powerful words of writer James Baldwin.
Composer Dwayne Fulton and librettist Richard Wesley dramatize the true stories of Walter Scott, Eric Garner and Freddie Carlos Gray, Jr., who within a year of each other suffered brutal deaths at the hands of police. The interweaving of Baldwin’s commentary forces us to look inside the minds of racists and interpret their horrible actions.
Trilogy: An Opera Company, an innovative musical enterprise under the artistic direction of Kevin Maynor, is celebrating its 15th anniversary in its home city of Newark.
