Carolyn Dorfman, Choreographer and Founding Artistic Director of Carolyn Dorfman Dance (CDD), is a creator of evocative dances that reflect her concerns about the human condition. Her interdisciplinary and intercultural approach on the stage and in the community explores the rich tapestry of human experience, tradition and stories. Celebrating 43 years, CDD creates immersive performance and teaching residencies that use art and process to build connection and understanding in diverse communities. Touring nationally and internationally, her 11-member, multi-ethnic company appears at major theaters, festivals, universities and non-traditional performance venues. She has received many artistic and civic awards and is honorary Co-Chair of NJPAC’s Dance Advisory Committee.
Freddie Moore, a native of Jersey City, was a featured artist with Ailey II, Donald Byrd/The Group, Forces of Nature, Gallman’s Newark Dance Theater and Blue Mercury Dancing Company. Moore has amassed credits in musicals, national television shows, music videos and documentaries. An award-winning dancer and master of the modern Horton Technique, Moore has developed performing arts curricula for schools and community-based programs and works with churches around the world to develop liturgical dance ministries. He is the Rehearsal Director for Ailey Student Performance Group (ASPG), Ailey Certificate Program Advisor and a faculty member at The Ailey School, Restoration Youth Arts Academy, Hudson Repertory Dance Theater as well as the Founder and Artistic Director of Footprints Dance Company.
Charles Scheland (he/him) is a modern dance artist based in New York City. He joined Carolyn Dorfman Dance in 2021 and is a senior teacher of Dorfman’s technique and repertory. He is a certified Ailey Horton Technique instructor and is on faculty at The Ailey School and Kanyok Arts Initiative and has been guest faculty at the Juilliard School, Steps on Broadway, Dance Theatre of Harlem and the School at Jacob’s Pillow. He has also danced for Site-Specific Dances, RIOULT Dance NY, Michael Mao Dance and been a guest artist with Alison Cook-Beatty Dance, Buglisi Dance Theater, New England Dance Theater, Neville Dance Theatre and Princeton Dance Theater.
