Work out your cold weather kinks with two free movement classes. The Graham Technique explores the body’s power through the sequence of the spine and daring shifts through space. Then sample Horton Technique, modern dance movements that awaken everyone’s strength, coordination and flexibility. These are open-level classes taught by professional dancers, no experience required!
Sierra Christine Sanders’ dance origin began at Marie Wildey’s School of Dance in East Orange. Sanders then trained in West African and modern dance in Usaama, the youth company directed by Karen Love. She continued her studies in modern dance at NJPAC’s Youth Artists Institute and graduated from Montclair State University with a bachelor’s in dance. She danced for Philadanco’s second company, D2, and received a full scholarship to the Martha Graham School as a member of Graham 2 and earned a teaching certificate in the Graham Technique. Sanders has danced professionally for Christopher Rudd’s RudduR Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Dzul Dance Theatre, Maxine Steinman & Dancers and The DynamitExperience. She performs with Accent Dance Company and continues to teach at the Ailey Extension as the program’s first Graham teacher.
Freddie Moore, a native of Jersey City, was a featured artist with Ailey II, Donald Byrd/The Group, Forces of Nature, Gallman’s Newark Dance Theater and Blue Mercury Dancing Company. Moore has amassed credits in musicals, national television shows, music videos and documentaries. An award-winning dancer and master of the modern Horton Technique, Moore has developed performing arts curricula for schools and community-based programs and works with churches around the world to develop liturgical dance ministries. He is the Rehearsal Director for Ailey Student Performance Group (ASPG), Ailey Certificate Program Advisor and a faculty member at The Ailey School, Restoration Youth Arts Academy, Hudson Repertory Dance Theater as well as the Founder and Artistic Director of Footprints Dance Company.
