Malaika Muindi is a New Jersey-based photographer, storyteller, and creative strategist dedicated to capturing authentic narratives through portraiture and visual media. As the founder of Captured Canvas, she specializes in personal branding, lifestyle photography, and content creation, helping individuals and businesses bring their stories to life. A two-time Getty Images grant recipient, Malaika’s work is rooted in community, culture, and the power of storytelling. Her journey into photography was deeply personal—starting with preserving the legacy of her late grandmother’s Kenyan jewelry business through visual documentation.
Since then, she has expanded her craft, collaborating with brands, entrepreneurs, and creatives to create impactful imagery. Beyond photography, Malaika is passionate about mentorship and education, offering workshops that teach emerging photographers and small business owners the art of visual storytelling. She is also the co-producer of Black As Place, a travel series highlighting the world’s Blackest communities. Malaika’s work has been featured in editorial projects, exhibitions, and digital campaigns, showcasing her ability to blend artistry with intentional storytelling.
