NJMEA All-State Jazz with Steve Turre
Discover the next generation of jazz artists at this annual concert, which brings together some of N.J.’s best young jazz musicians for a dynamic group performance. This year’s special guest is master trombonist Steve Turre.
One of the world's preeminent jazz innovators, musician, arranger and educator Steve Turre has consistently won both Readers' and Critics' polls in JazzTimes, Downbeat, and Jazziz. During his 40-plus-year career, he has worked with many of American music’s greatest figures, including Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Tito Puente, moving freely among the worlds of jazz, pop, and Latin music. On his latest album, The Very Thought of You, Turre shows off his heartfelt way with a ballad, taking on classic tunes like “Danny Boy,” “The Shadow of Your Smile,” “No Regrets,” and more.
This event is presented by NJPAC’s Arts Education Department and the New Jersey Music Educators Association.
