Nothing illustrates the incredible power of words like the Dodge Poetry Festival North America’s largest celebration of poems and poets.

Held every other year at NJPAC, this joyful three-day gathering of writers and readers from around the country offers spoken word performances, conversations with poets about their craft, book signings and writing workshops. The Festival will also feature food trucks and a pop-up bookshop (presented by Newark’s beloved Source of Knowledge).

And for high school students and their teachers, it’s all free!

High school groups are eligible to attend all daytime events during the Festival’s Young Artist Day — Friday, October 16, 2026 — at no cost. Teachers or administrators simply need to complete an online registration process.

The 2026 Dodge Poetry Festival will present state and national Poets Laureate, Pulitzer Prize winners, slam champions and some of the most talented emerging poets working today, including:

U.S. Poet Laureate Arthur Sze; Pulitzer Prize winner Tyehimba Jess; best-selling young-adult novelist and poet Elizabeth Acevedo (The Poet X); poet and youngest-ever Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam Champion, Aja Monet; Palestinian American poet and songwriter Naomi Shihab Nye; and many more.

Get students excited about reading, writing and sharing their stories at the 2026 Dodge Poetry Festival by registering to attend today!

You can request a reservation by filling out this form embedded above. Our team will email you within 5 business days to assist in reservation if we have capacity for your group. If you do not hear from us within 5 business days, please send a follow up email to schooltime@njpac.org

Please notify us five weeks in advance for sign language interpreter needs, and two weeks in advance for all other ADA needs. We can provide: American Sign language interpreter; assistive listening devices; closer seats for students with vision impairments; wheelchair/walker accessible seating; fewer stairs for those with other mobility issues; monitors in the lobby for students who need to leave the theater. Please indicate any requests on your order form or contact us at schooltime@njpac.org to make a request. If you need a sign interpreter, we require five weeks advance notice for any interpreter needs.

In order to make this opportunity as accessible to all as possible, we can only accommodate up to 50 students and 5 chaperones (10:1, student: chaperone ration), per school. Please do not reserve more seats than your group will require, so we can accurately accommodate our waitlist. If your numbers change closer to the day of the festival, please notify us, so we can update your voucher.

If you are on our waitlist, we are at capacity for the festival. You will be emailed if seats become available.

Our schedules are carefully curated to ensure we do not go over the capacities of each poetry session. This helps us create a safe and enjoyable space for all of our guests. For your safety, please use the schedule assigned to your school, so we know how to locate your group throughout the day in the event of an emergency, and to be able to accommodate all groups at every venue.

If you can only stay for a portion of the event, please indicate which hours you are available in your reservation request. We will try our best to curate a schedule that aligns with your ideal arrival and departure.

Arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of your first session, so you can get checked in and find your session. Once your registration is complete, we will send a map of our campus with the check-in area clearly marked. We will not be able to provide bus parking throughout the day, but there will be a designated space for your bus to return to when it is time for departure.

Call us at 973.297.5828 after 6:30AM the day of the festival for any updates or cancellations.

Due to the number of sessions programmed and the capacities of each space, we schedule groups to maximize individual experiences and allow diverse insights for your students. We will determine the number of small groups needed for your school, so your group coordinator can divide the students into their curated schedules ahead of time.

Your admittance vouchers will be sent within a month of the festival. In order to receive your voucher, our team must receive proof of acquired transportation to our venue. Once transportation is coordinated and we create your schedule, we will send a voucher outlining your sessions. This voucher will need to be signed and returned to us for your registration to be complete.

If there are not enough teachers to meet the required ratio of 1 chaperone per 10 students, your school is welcome to invite caregivers, volunteers, and other school staff to the festival. A ratio of 1 trusted adult for every 10 students is required for the safety of all participants given the size of the event.

A roster of sessions will be emailed to registered groups in the month of September. Please email schooltime@njpac.org if you do not receive additional information by September.
