Overview

Join us for a look back at Newark’s past, and learn how its history impacts the city today, through a series of conversations with the Newark History Society.

On Monday, March 1, 2021, at 6PM, take part in a virtual conversation about the riots and uprising that have taken place throughout Newark’s long history, each one revealing deep divisions in the social and political fabric of the city.

Our panelists for this discussion will include artist Noelle Lorraine Williams, Seton Hall professor Fr. Augustine Curley, and William Paterson University history professor George Robb, who will talk about the anti-integration riot at Fourth Presbyterian in 1834, the nativist riot and attack on St. Mary’s in 1854, and the Newark race riot of 1917.
