For 150 years, The Bethany Baptist Church of Newark has been one of the leading African American houses of worship, and for 20 of those years, the Church has featured monthly jazz in its Saturday evening Vesper services.

February’s featured performer is Lew Tabackin, the visionary jazz flutist and tenor saxophonist. Early in his career, he played with The Dick Cavett Show band and The Tonight Show band with Doc Severinsen. Lew is known for his long-running big band collaborations with his wife, celebrated pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi.
