For 150 years, The Bethany Baptist Church of Newark has been one of the leading African American houses of worship, and for 20 of those years, the Church has featured monthly jazz in its Saturday evening Vesper services.

April’s featured performers are Paquito D’Rivera and Alex Brown. Sax man and clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera is known for his prowess in both Latin jazz and classical music. He’s won five GRAMMY® Awards, and might have a sixth by the time he rolls into Bethany Baptist—he’s nominated this year for an incredible 16th time. He’ll be joined by jazz pianist Alex Brown, who has been a vital part of Paquito’s band for years.
