Overview

The hills are alive with the sound of Black music! This groundbreaking concert reimagines Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music through an Afrofuturistic lens, combining familiar lyrics and melodies with jazz, soul, funk and hip hop. The band of electrifying performers includes vocalists Brianna Thomas and Chareene Wade and musical director Vuyo Sotashe, and the uplifting spirit of Black roots music is masterfully curated by Michael Mwenso and Jono Gasparro in association with Electric Root. With unexpected arrangements and a message of unity and resilience, The Sound of (Black) Music is a must-see celebration of the power, beauty and rich cultural heritage of Black music in all its forms.

“One of the most titanically musical nights of my year, bringing gospel, soul and Afrobeat to Rodgers and Hammerstein.”
