in memoriam

The Russell Moy Ahavas Sholom Jazz for Teens Scholarship Fund was created in tribute to the late Russell Gerard Moy, an acclaimed drummer and beloved drum teacher. A native of Elizabeth, Moy learned to play drums as a child and began performing while still in grade school. He would go on to play with the likes of Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Connie Francie, Vic Damone and Bobby Rydell. For 47 years, while still performing, he operated and taught at the Russ Moy Drum Studio in Union; his students include Rick Downey, the drummer for Blue Oyster Cult, among many other rockers, jazz drummers and drum technicians.

This scholarship fund will provide support on an as-needed basis for drum students participating in NJPAC’s Jazz for Teens programs.
