This summer is sure to be a fun, comprehensive, and enlightening, theatrical educational experience. Our newly redesigned and re-envisioned Theater Arts Education Department is debuting a new format. Our highly accomplished professional teaching artists guide students as they discover, create and grow into well-rounded theater artists. Whatever their age or experience level, students will be sure to get the support needed to succeed.

All students will participate in core classes according to their age, and placement level.

Core classes include; Improvisation, Comedy, and Playreading, as well as the Community(optional) and Showcase times.

Our exciting and diverse class offerings expose students to the foundational pillars of Acting and Musical Theater.

Students registering for Musical theater participate in core classes as well as musical theater dance (MT) choreography & singing.

Students registering for Acting, participate in core classes as well as movement for the actor & vocal production.

Open level sessions (9-12 & 13-17) are perfect for students who are joining us for the very first time. Open level focuses on awareness of self and others while building community and a rich theater vocabulary. Students will have the opportunity to respond to theater practices as they gain valuable life skills.

Level 1 sessions (9-12 & 13-17) are designed for students to build on their open level knowledge as they focus on advancing a deeper understanding of the methodologies and techniques of being a performer. Level 1 students must have completed the prior fall and spring sessions, and/or have prior theater training.

*Please know that here at NJPAC Arts Education we are working hard to accommodate your program request to the best of our ability. If for any reason we are unable to meet that request we will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss how we can best serve your school/community. Approval for in person programs is based upon NJPAC guidelines and subject to change.*

Welcome to YASI 2020! This is not quite how we expected things to be, but I am excited to offer programming and engagement for our young creatives.

One of my favorite parts about artists is we are masters at adapting. We can’t control situations but we can control how we react. Living through our current health crisis and looking at where the arts fit in has been eye opening. Quarantined or not, people need to be able to express themselves, to communicate, to have a say, a voice. We cannot connect physically at this moment but we must all find ways to stay engaged.

This summer’s offerings have three components. Morning classes focus on technique in a students chosen arts expression (theatre, musical theatre dance). The theme of the afternoon is “Coast to Coast” connections. My hope is to bring together not only students from around the country, but to create teaching artist partnerships from unexpected and non-traditional views all focusing on finding expression and student voice.

The day will conclude with Mastery Teaching Artist sessions. NJPAC’s best teaching artists will take a deeper dive into subjects of their passion.

It’s a first time for a lot of things. 2020 will be a year we’ll never forgot. I hope these new opportunities will strengthen not only ways of artistic expression but give a platform for young artist citizens to find their growing voices. So, what do you have to say?

Please read this important information prior to registering for any course

Your safety is our priority. Since the pandemic began, we’ve collaborated with medical professionals, invested in building upgrades, and put new procedures in place to protect our guests, staff, volunteers, and faculty. Just a few things you might want to know: Masks are welcomed but not required. Faculty and staff are required to be vaccinated. Students 5+ must show proof of vaccination prior to the first in-person session. Arts Education programs are at reduced capacity to allow for safe distancing. And you can feel safe knowing our HVAC system meets industry standards for virus ionization and filtration and our cleaning processes follow all CDC recommendations. Further details on program protocols are here and specific details on procedures are shared upon completed registration and during program orientations.
