Overview
For 150 years, The Bethany Baptist Church of Newark has been one of the leading African American houses of worship. The Church features monthly jazz in its Saturday evening Vesper services.
In February, Bethany Baptist welcomes pianist Bill Charlap. A gifted interpreter of jazz standards and the American Songbook, he won a GRAMMY for his collaboration with Tony Bennett, The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern. He’s currently Director of Jazz Studies at William Paterson University, and a familiar face within the NJPAC jazz community. He’ll be joined by bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Dennis Mackrel.
