Overview

The largest poetry festival in North America celebrates 10 years at NJPAC and Newark’s Downtown Arts District with four days of poetry readings, performances, discussions, and music.

The 18th biennial Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry event in North America, will feature bestselling authors, literary legends, U.S. Poets Laureate, Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Award winners, slam champions, and Academy of American Poets Chancellors.

Among the Festival poets will current U.S. Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo, and former Laureates Charles Simic and Natasha Trethewey, along with Elizabeth Alexander and Richard Blanco, President Obama’s first and second inaugural poets. Also participating will be Pulitzer Prize winners Forrest Gander and Tyehimba Jess, as well as MacArthur Fellowship recipients Terrance Hayes and Edward Hirsch. Other much published and award-winning poets featured will be Ellen Bass, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Eavan Boland, Marilyn Chin, Cornelius Eady, Martín Espada, Kwame Dawes, Natalie Diaz, Nikky Finney, Carolyn Forché, Vievee Francis, Linda Gregerson, Brenda Hillman, Marie Howe, Dorianne Laux, Ada Limón, Alicia Ostriker, Paisley Rekdal, David St. John and Kevin Young.
