Overview

In this free Zoom conversation, poet-activists Tamiko Beyer, Franny Choi and Alexis Pauline Gumbs will discuss how they engage with poetry as a catalyst for social change, justice and liberation. The panelists will explore how collectively we can use poetry to activate spaces, create calls to action and advance narrative and material change.

The focus will be on poetry by and for BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQIA+, working-class folks and others targeted by the harms of racial capitalism, white supremacy and cisheteropatriarchy. The conversation will touch on how poetry has been used historically in moments of great social change and will ask how we are wielding and nourishing poetry as a portal to disrupt ways of perceiving, new possibilities and different futures in this very moment.
