New season of NJPAC Standing in Solidarity events launches September 28 

Newark NAACP and National Pan-Hellenic Council curate a program 

on the political power of Gen Z  

Up next: Immigration, Crossing Borders and Boundaries (October 19) 

(Newark, N.J. — August 31, 2026) The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) will launch a new season of Standing in Solidarity events on September 28.  

Standing in Solidarity is NJPAC’s ongoing series of monthly conversations built around issues of social justice and equity. Most of these programs include a screening of a socially-engaged documentary paired with a thought-provoking, post-screening talk by a panel of activists, academics, nonprofit leaders and others deeply engaged with the topic. 

In partnership with Dodge Poetry, each gathering begins with a poetry performance. 

Programs also feature resource tables staffed by organizations that do work connected to the evening’s topic. Doors open at 5PM so guests can gather information from our partners before the start of the program at 6PM.

A panel of Gen Z leaders who are members of the Divine Nine, the nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), lead the conversation on voting power. What barriers to participation do young voters face? And what is at stake in New Jersey’s midterm elections? A link to the film Conscience of the Congress, the untold story of the Congressional Black Caucus, will be sent in advance to watch at home.

Immigration: Crossing Borders and Boundaries

The Immigration Paradox, a documentary featuring revealing interviews from across the immigration debate, will be screened, followed by a panel featuring immigrants and immigration activists sharing their lived experiences. How do they navigate the tension between who they are and who others ask them to become? What is lost — and what is gained — in a new country?
