"The Rolls Royce of American dance” (The Los Angeles Times) rolls into town for its annual spring engagement with dazzling programs that combine new works with masterpieces like Revelations.
America’s premier modern dance company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is known around the world for its vibrant fusion of modern dance, ballet and other styles. The company grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at New York City’s 92nd Street Y. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance forever changed the perception of American dance.

All programs at NJPAC will include the full-length Revelations, Ailey’s signature masterpiece that pays tribute to African-American cultural heritage, set to set to spirituals and blues. “Revelations is one of the great works of the human spirit,” says The New York Times. “The aspects of humanity it demonstrates — sincerity, idealism, ecstasy, among others — build up to a powerful moral statement that audiences love … it is modern dance’s unquestionable greatest hit.” Revelations is classified by The Los Angeles Times as “the most beloved modern dance creation by anyone, anywhere ...”
