Overview

This Wellness Wednesday, redefine contemporary dance in this unique workshop with Annielille Gavino!

Annielille is a Filipinx movement artist, researcher, writer, and cultural worker. As the director of Ani/Malayaworks, she uses dance as a storytelling element for exploring ancestral memories, spiritual journeys, and community-based decolonial art activism. Throughout her career, she has danced with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, and Ananya Dance Theater. Annielille earned an MFA in Dance from Hollins University and currently writes for a dance publication called thINKing Dance, where she also serves on the editorial board.

In this virtual “(re)contemporary” class, Annielille will begin with a warm-up that will merge the Eastern diasporic principles of breath, rhythm, storytelling, and prayer. She will then teach a movement phrase designed to help participants rediscover American modern dance through the lens of a Filipino-American dancer’s experience. Don’t miss this opportunity to move with Ani on May 26 at 7:30 PM!
