Overview

Join us for a free, online, jazz-poetry performance culminating our fall workshops. You’ll hear thought-provoking original poems read aloud by local poets Rutgers—Newark MFA candidate, Attorious Renee Augustin; Newarker, Mia X; and Ali Longo, as well as works by Hanif Abdurraqib, Joy Harjo, Tracy K. Smith, Natalie Diaz, and Jeananne Verlee, set to the music of John Coltrane, Jimmy Greene, Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, and Stanley Turrentine, played by a live jazz quartet led by Mark Gross, artistic director of jazz for City Verses. Our theme is “Phronesis: A Focus on Frequency,” a meditation on the practical virtue of introspection. Be part of our collective journey through this melodious mixtape.
